Michigan football looked like itself Saturday in a 52-0 trouncing of Rutgers and here are five things we learned in the domination.

The Michigan football team wasn’t going to silence its critics with a win over Rutgers. But for the first time in 2019, the Wolverines played like we expected them to.

Michigan football racked up 476 yards of total offense against the Scarlet Knights and in turn, held them to 152. Kwity Paye was all over the quarterback and the Wolverines dominated the line of scrimmage.

There are still some kinks to work out obviously and beating a Big Ten doormat is nothing to get excited about. Yet, it wasn’t just that Michigan beat Rutgers, it was how the Wolverines did it that was impressive.

Shea Patterson finally looked comfortable and confident and for once, Josh Gattis seemed to find a rhythm calling plays. But more than anything, this team seemed to respond to head coach Jim Harbaugh, who seemed like he challenged his team this week.

Harbaugh called out the Wolverines Monday, in the way that he does it and the team responded. They didn’t lay down and they didn’t just go through the motions.

This looked like the team we all thought could truly contend in the Big Ten East. That calculation may have been off because Ohio State looks out of this world, but still, Saturday was a good day for Michigan football and here’s a look at five things we learned in the win over Rutgers.
