Questions Surround The Offense

There is no doubt that the Michigan offense is a mess. It had too much hype entering 2019 and has been a disappointment out of the gates.

Josh Gattis is experiencing major growing pains as a first-time coordinator. He’s either saving gameplans for certain situations or just doesn’t trust in himself to open up the playbook yet. Either way, things have to change heading into the excruciating schedule that lies ahead.

Patterson found the open guys in the zone for the most part. His accuracy continues to be on display on slant routes especially. The route has also been the best passing call in the book so far after two outings. Another benefit to look forward to is the return of Donovan Peoples-Jones. His appearance in the lineup should open up more routes to help the stagnant execution of the offense altogether.

The offensive line didn’t add much to support the offense either. They struggled to open gaps for the backs and had Patterson running out of the pocket far too many times. A healthy Jon Runyan will likely comeback in two weeks. If that happens, it might just solidify a very promising unit going into the season.
