D.J. Turner

To be clear, this list isn’t a ranking of players. So the fact that Turner is fourth on the list doesn’t mean he will have a bigger impact than Hinton or Charbonnet or Hill.

But, with some of the depth issues at cornerback and after a solid fall camp, it appears that Turner isn’t that far from seeing the field.

Right now the pecking order seems to be Lavert Hill, Vincent Gray and Jaylen Kelly-Powell followed by Gemon Green and Turner. Obviously, Ambry Thomas is projected to be a starter when and if he returns to being 100 percent.

But until that happens, Turner, a 5-foot-11 freshman has a chance to make an impression. He will certainly get some playing this week against the Blue Raiders and if he can hold up well in the first part of the season, don’t be shocked if he’s counted on for more as the year goes on.

Ideally, guys like Turner could redshirt and not have to play until 2020. But unless all of the corners stay healthy, it’s likely he will play more than four games and a bigger role than expected.
