Chris Hinton

The Wolverines lost some key pieces on the defensive line, namely Rashan Gary and Chase Winovich.

Winovich was known for his pass-rushing abilities but he was also a stalwart against the run. Gary was too and even though Michigan football fans may have underrated his contributions, he was a huge part of the team’s run defense.

Gary routinely took on double teams and still found a way to make plays. Aidan Hutchinson will help fill the void on the edge but something else that could help is having a dominant run defender inside and that could be freshman defensive tackle Chris Hinton.

The recruit was listed by some as a four-star and others as a five-star. He is clearly one of the most talented players in this freshmen class.

At 6-foot-4 and 303 pounds, he could probably play either defensive tackle or defensive end. However, he probably is a better fit inside.

Carlo Kemp, Donovan Jeter and Michael Dwumfour are some of the names in front of him, but with his ability to control the line of scrimmage, he will be a regular on the D-line and keeping him off the field will prove to be difficult.
