Michigan Football: Breaking down each ranked opponent for Wolverines
Ohio State comes to AA
No team is more motivated than the Wolverines are to beat Ohio State and judging by the preseason predictions, this is the year.
Head coach Urban Meyer retired and the untested Ryan Day has taken over in Columbus. One of his first acts as the big man on campus was to acquire the talents of former Georgia Bulldog quarterback, Justin Fields. Ranked as the No. 2 quarterback out of the state of Georiga (Behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence), Fields is one of the highest-ranked QBs to dawn the scarlet uniform.
Justin is joined in the backfield by J.K. Dobbins whose Barry Sanders-esque running style has brought him back-to-back thousand-yard seasons for the Buckeyes. Should history repeat itself, this will likely be Dobbins’ final season as he will hear his name called early in the 2020 NFL draft.
Another future draftee is defensive end Chase Young who is expected to be a top-five pick next year. Chase accounted for 33 tackles and 9.5 sacks in 2018.
The key here will be quarterback play. Justin wasn’t good enough to take over the starting job at Georgia, sending him packing to Columbus. Obviously, the Wolverines can score on this team as they put up 39 on the scoreboard when we heard the final whistle. The onus will be on the defense to keep OSU’s score under 40.
