Turner and Charbonnet turn heads

A couple of weeks ago at Big Ten Media Days, Jim Harbaugh named senior Tru Wilson as the Wolverines starting running back.

The announcement was a bit of a surprise because many expected running back to be one of the most-heated position battles of fall camp. But Harbaugh knew what he was doing and it’s likely he was trying to motivate the two young guys in the backfield, Christian Turner and Zach Charbonnet.

Charbonnet enrolled early and was supposed to take part in spring ball but was unable to because of a knee scope. However, the four-star freshman who is Michigan’s top recruit offensively is now healthy and he should open eyes in camp.

Charbonnet, who is 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, is a big, physical back and he’s going to be electric. I expect him to be the starter by the end of the season, maybe even by the time Big Ten play rolls around. Yet, I think Turner will also emerge and give UM three solid ball carriers for 2019.
