Who will start at RB?

This still remains the most complicated question despite the fact that it was answered so clearly by Harbaugh during Big Ten Media Days. Jim announced that Tru Wilson as the leading man.

Yeah, ok, Jim.

Michigan’s third-highest ranked recruit from the 2019 cycle was Zach Charbonnet who is basically a cheat code. A very big cheat code.

Jim named Tru as the stater because he hasn’t seen Zach play against his defense. Zach showed up for school preparing for knee surgery and has been sidelined ever since. The injury should not affect the 2019 season as Charbonnet should be ready for game one. Until then Wilson will take snaps with the first-stringers.

How long will that last? It depends on the work ethic of this fantastic freshman and that is one thing that’s not in question.

“From what I’ve seen, he’s a really hard worker,” said Tru. “He talks with his hard work. He’s really focused, he’s a really serious guy. He wants to learn, he asks questions.”

It will also come down to how healthy Zach can reasonably be when the season kicks off and according to Jim, all signs point to Chabonnet being ready to go.

“Based on the expertise of doctors here, being able to do a surgery, rehab, the post-op, everything in house, it’s really reassuring when you can supervise and structure the entire recovery. There’s no downside.

“Either way, he’s going to miss spring most likely, and so let’s do it all here and make sure everything’s exactly right, when he transitions to summer training, it’s smooth and there’s no more concerns.”
