Giles Jackson

While Mike Sainristil may be the hot name when it comes to freshmen wide receivers, the other name you need to know is Giles Jackson.

Jackson, a 5-foot-8 dynamo that weighs around 180 pounds is a guy that many are excited about and for good reason. He was an all-purpose back in high school and offensively, he can just about do it all. He could be a receiver, play in the slot or even the backfield.

And with the loss of Chris Evans due to academic suspension, Jackson could have a very real role to play. In addition to getting more carries this season, Evans would have likely played a much bigger role as a receiver, both out of the backfield and maybe in the slot.

So now, as I see it, Jackson can help fill in for Evans. Like Sainristil, he can get snaps in the slot but also, why not give him some carries out of the backfield? Line him up next to Patterson and give him a few handoffs, sweeps or end-arounds.

Can you imagine linebackers trying to cover him on a swing route out of the backfield? Point is there are lots of ways Michigan football can use him to attack. He’s also dynamic on special teams and could take the pressure of Ambry Thomas and Donovan Peoples-Jones as return guys.
