Michigan football has rarely been referred to as tight end university and yet some of the greatest ever have walked down the tunnel to play as a Wolverine. Let’s look at the top ten TEs of all-time.

Iowa is – in recent years- the tight end machine for the Big Ten. Jake Butt was great for Michigan football – like top ten great – but Iowa had two tight ends go in the first round this year (T.J. Hockenson 8th overall, Noah Fant 20th overall).

That’s not mentioning 49ers breakout star, George Kittle, who had more than 1,300 receiving yards last season. While Iowa can arguably claim to be TE U in recent history, when you look at the collegiate GOAT’s, there really isn’t anyone school who has a leg up over any other.

If you take a look at Athlon Sports College Football’s Top 30 Tight Ends of the BCS EraIowa has only one player to Wisconsin’s four. Michigan football also only made the top 30 once, however, that list excludes some of the best including John Mackey – The John Mackey Award is given to the best college football tight end every year. That guy went to Syracuse but, that’s really where the legacy stops for them.

To sum it up, everyone has their own unique claim to the tight end U title. Everyone has a single-season record or all-time receiving yard stat that they lean on to make their case. Here at GBMWolverine, we’re going to concentrate on the greatest tight ends that ever mattered: The top 10 Michigan football tight ends of all time.

Before we get started, there was no one mentioned prior to 1950 and the ranking is based on several factors, including, but not limited to, statistics, awards, honors, and other achievements.
