Jim Harbaugh has been deemed the savior of Michigan Football but has he lived up to the hype? Everything you need to know about Harbaugh’s future is here.

Michigan football is headed towards another season under head coach Jim Harbaugh, and the expectations are just as high as years past.

The former first-round pick out of Michigan has made tremendous strides on the recruiting trail and within his staff. Having a top 25 class in each of his four years being there it still hasn’t seemed to click.

Harbaugh was once seen as an elite coach in the college game having coached Andrew Luck at Stanford and producing wins at the Big House, however, he can’t seem to win the big games.

If the playoff was based on a popularity contest Michigan football would get in every year but it’s not and UM fans have to sit and watch the team the down south go to big bowl games, trips to Indianapolis and win national championships. The standard is to chase the team in Columbus and Harbaugh has not done that well enough.

The program has made a lot of changes for good from within, recruiting the right guys to make those leaps to compete in the tough Big Ten East. Michigan football still has its reputation of being an elite program but the results don’t show that under coach Harbaugh having gone 38-14 over his tenure.

This would be a great mark at Illinois, Indiana or some second-tier program but not at Michigan. Having gone 1-3 in bowl games, 0-4 against Ohio State and 2-2 against Michigan State, you have to wonder if there is a scare within the staff when it comes to playing these rivals.

This is the year things could turn around for the program, having a seasoned veteran leading the team in Shea Patterson and the majority of the offensive line coming back. And with Donovan People-Jones, who could be destined for a breakout year, Nico Collins and Tarik Black, along with the addition of offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, the offense should be able to put up great yardage along with putting points on the scoreboard.

Gattis, who comes from Alabama following a three-year tenure at Penn State, knows what it takes to score points and make good receivers great, having coached the likes of Jordan White, Jordan Matthews, and Jerry Jeudy.

The defense comes with veteran leadership with 10 of the 11 projected starters being upperclassmen and lonely underclassmen Aidan Hutchinson is a sophomore but comes with experience as well having played in all 13 games last year.

However, the mastermind is back. Don Brown, the one million dollar man will have his hands all over this defense and after giving up 62 points in the last regular season game, all hands will be on deck as it looks to avenge the meltdown against Ohio State and Florida.

The coach who is known for his popularity and taking expensive trips around the world hasn’t been popular in Ann Arbor, not delivering a victory over the team down south (OH.. You know the rest) or a Big Ten championship appearance. With all the talent on the offensive side of the ball, as well as on the defensive side, along with a great staff, there are no excuses and if things don’t change, AD Warde Manuel may have something to think about.
