Michigan football played host to some of the top high school football players in the nation and used their own heavy hitters to secure some commits.

Isaiah Hole was kind enough to lay down a list of the rock stars in Ann Arbor this weekend in his article The definitive list of Michigan visitors this weekend. According to Isaiah, there were 20 official visitors and six unofficial’s on campus, eight of those young men are already Michigan football commits.

Matthew Hibner, Micah Mazzuccua, Osman Savage, Zak Zinter, JD Johnson. JJ McCarthy, Braiden McGregor, and Cornell Wheeler were all on campus telling the other 18 how great the Wolverines would be if they only pull the trigger and commit to Michigan.

And guess what, it worked.

Reece Atteberry, William Mohan, and top 2020 safety Jordan Morant all committed to play for the Wolverines. The team was also able to convince Aaron Lewis to flip from West Virginia, bringing the total number of official weekend commits to four.

While I did mention the total official commits, it seems there are a few more coming – four more to be exact.

The Director of Recruiting, Matt Dudek, took to Twitter to tell the world how successful the weekend was and thanked everyone involved.

"After 48 hours, GREAT fellowship, and INCREDIBLE news (x8) Schembechler Hall is quiet. I’m the “silly, fat guy” that gets credit for it but in all seriousness I sit at my desk right now thinking how lucky I am, how lucky I am to be apart of this VILLAGE…"

Matt went on to describe the ‘VILLAGE’ as everyone from hotel staff to facility workers and staff and finished by praising head coach Jim Harbaugh, describing him as the best “in the land.”

I too believe this weekends strategy was recruiting by committee but the most important voice these young guys hear is the voice of their peers and those conversations led to eight more pledges for the 2020 class, according to Dudek.

Until those other four make themselves known, let’s take a look at the official four:

(Rankings come from 247Sports)

William ‘Apache’ Mohan

Although Apache Mohan is recorded as an athlete on 247Sports, the Wolverines are likely going to use him at Khaleke Hudson’s Viper position.

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, Apache is ranked No. 3 in New York, No. 29 positionally, and No. 443 nationally. Mohan garnered three-stars so far while holding an 8816 composite rating, both likely to rise as we move closer to the 2020 season.

Aaron Lewis

The 6-foot-5 235-pound defensive end was committed to West Virginia, nevertheless, the New Jersey native decided Ann Arbor is going to be his next home.

247Sports Brian Dohn evaluated Lewis and spoke most about Aaron’s speed.

“Has fast-twitch muscles. Gets off ball quickly. Physical at point of attack.” Dohn wrote, “Re-directs well along line of scrimmage. Plus body control. Great motor. Has closing speed.”

Lewis is ranked No. 13 in NJ, No. 21 SDE, and No. 433 nationally. Lewis is also a three-star with an 8826 composite.

Reece Atteberry

This 6-foot-5, 280-pound lineman is the eighth best center in the nation and the seventh best player from the state of Colorado.

Reece’s comments following his commitment prove those already committed played a big role in his pledge.

“We’re committed to excellence and it’s really a dream come true.” Reece said, “I feel like there are a lot of people there that are headed in the same direction and I can’t wait to get out there.”

Atteberry is currently a three-star with an 8863 composite rating.

Jordan Morant

With the commitment of Jordan Morant, Michigan has gone two years bringing in the top safety. Morant joins top 2019 safety Daxton Hill on Don Brown’s stellar defense.

Morant is the No. 1 safety, No. 2 from New Jersey, and No. 47 nationally. Although Morant is sitting on four-stars and a 9368 composite, he will likely be rated a five-star with a higher composite before he lands on campus.
