Michigan Basketball: Draft review and catching up with Wolverines in NBA
2000 and 2010 NBA Draft
It’s important to note Ekpe Udoh played for Michigan and was drafted in 2010 but just a year before the draft, Ekpe played for Baylor after transferring from Michigan.
Onto the 2000 NBA draft which is considered a rough one in terms of how all the picks ended up. Only three players from that year have one a major end-of-season award and Michigan’s Jamal Crawford was one of them.
Jamal Crawford
Crawford was selected via trade by the Chicago Bulls at eight overall and has played for eight teams in his extensive career. The award mentioned above is the NBA Sixth Man of the Year which he has earned three times and he was named NBA Teammate of the Year in 2018.
At 39 years old, Crawford averaged 7.9 points-per-game for the Phoenix Suns.
Outside of the NBA, Crawford became a mentor for the then-seventh-grader Kevin Porter Jr. Fast forward a few years and Kevin joined his mentor after being selected 30th overall in Thursday’s draft.
