3-star athlete William Mohan became the 11th member of Michigan football’s 2020 class on Sunday. This commitment continues a trend for the Wolverines on the Eastern Seaboard.

In the midst of their biggest recruiting weekend of the year, Michigan football landed a big commitment on Sunday morning.

Erasmus Hall (Brooklyn, NY) “Viper” target William Mohan pledged to the Wolverines. With Ohio State also pursuing the versatile defender, this is a nice get for Michigan.

Built in the same mold as Khaleke Hudson, Mohan’s commitment continues Michigan’s recruiting success in our nation’s East Coast states.

Jabrill Peppers and Rashan Gary – both hailing from New Jersey – were some of the country’s most sought-after recruits. We have seen Michigan football double down on these efforts in the 2019 and 2020 classes.

Among Michigan football’s 26 2019 commits, four are natives of this region. And they are some of the nation’s best talent, too.

The Wolverines were able to sign four-stars on both sides of the ball in this class. Out of the Brunswick School, WR Cornelius Johnson was the No. 1 player in the state of Connecticut. At 6-foot-2 and possessing 4.58 speed, Johnson should be able to stretch the field and become a prime red-zone target offensively.

Defensively, the 2019 East Coast haul was just as nice.

A St. John’s (Washington, DC) product, DB Quinten Johnson picked the Wolverines over the likes of Alabama and Maryland. He was joined by Blair Academy (Blairstown, NJ) DE David Ojabo.

Despite just picking up football in 2017, Ojabo already projects as a multi-year starter for Michigan. At 240 pounds, there is plenty of room for him to put more weight on and what stands out most about him is his burst. He gets off the line and up to full speed extremely well. Both of these guys could be a couple of fun pieces for Don Brown moving forward.

Pivoting to this year’s class, Mohan isn’t the only commit Michigan football has pulled from the East Coast. 4-star OT Zak Zinter is a North Andover, Massachusetts native.

More from Michigan Football

All indications are that St. Frances (Laurel, MD) 4-star RB Blake Corum will soon be joining Mohan and Zinter in the 2020 class. Also taking his official visit to Ann Arbor this weekend, Michigan football holds 100% of his Crystal Ball predictions.

There are a couple of reasons for Michigan football’s success on the East Coast. First, Don Brown is an East Coach guy. Prior to joining the staff in 2016, the DC/LB coach spent his first 39 years in the business at a number of Ivy League, Big East and ACC schools.

Secondly, is the addition of Ed Warinner as OL coach in 2018. Long respected for his recruiting abilities, Warinner made a living recruiting the East Coast during his time at Ohio State.

While Mohan was primarily recruited by Anthony Campanile and Chris Partridge, he attends the same school that former Ohio State RB Curtis Samuel did. A 4-star in the 2014 class, Warinner was Samuel’s primary recruiter and ultimately sealed the deal for the Buckeyes. This connection no doubt came in handy for Michigan.

Michigan football has been able to compose back-to-back top-20 classes in no small part due to their success on the East Coast. With plenty of offers still extended, it is only a matter of time until UM can add another commit to the list.
