Braiden McGregor

At the auditorium at Port Huron Northern, the in-state star defensive end sat in a chair with the world watching as he reached for a hat.

There were several hats on the table in front of the young man and yet he lunged for the one with the block M and Wolverines fans around the world cheered as they knew they were getting someone special.

“It was always Michigan,” Braiden McGregor told reporters following his announcement.

Braiden sits behind offensive lineman Justin Rogers as the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Michigan. Rogers will be heading south to Kentucky to play making the commitment of McGregor all the more important.

McGregor is also ranked at the No. 3 SDE,  No, 81 nationally, and carries a 9603 composite rating while currently only holding four-stars.

“Has a prototypical frame for the position. Tall, longer arms, well-muscled, but still with room to grow in college. Is a very good athlete who can run, redirect, and chase plays down in pursuit. Has good closing speed.” Allen Trieu wrote in his evaluation of McGregor, “Once he adds more violent hands and some go-to pass rush moves to his arsenal he will be tough to stop. Growth may determine if he ends up as a five-technique or if he plays on the weak-side because he is athletic enough to be the latter. At either spot, he projects as a major impact guy in college.”

Trieu also projected Braiden as a second-round draft selection and compared him to Redskins great Ryan Kerrigan.

Prior to the big announcement, Braiden was on campus and posing for a picture with the coaching staff. That’s where he informed them of his intent and their reaction is priceless.

Yes, Matt Dudek jumped into his arms and coach Nua strangely grabbed either a small bat or it just looked small because of the gigantic Shawn Nua.
