Grade: B+

The final addition to Howard’s staff is expected to be former Boston College and long-time NBA player Howard Eisley. The Detroit native has been an assistant coach for the Knicks and like Howard, had a lengthy NBA career.

While a case could be made for another coach with more college chops, Eisley makes sense for a number of reasons. His ties to Detroit should come in handy for recruiting, as should his name recognition. He was an outstanding high school player in the Detroit, the 30th overall pick in the NBA draft and a guy who played 12 seasons in the NBA.

Recruiting and player development will be two key roles for Eisley who will fill the role of DeAndre Haynes. Haynes got acclaim for his work with Zavier Simpson and Jordan Poole.

When you look at the staff as a whole, it’s hard to imagine Howard doing better. He got the veteran assistant he needed, he kept Washington to smooth the transition and he hired another NBA guy with ties to Detroit that should kill it in recruiting.

Building the right staff is key and when it comes to Michigan basketball’s, Howard did extremely well.
