Grade: A

Trying to assign a letter grade to the hiring or the retaining of Saddi Washington as an assistant coach for Michigan basketball was tough. It was basically a no-brainer. Yet it was still brilliant.

As much as Howard needed someone with head coaching experience on his bench, he also needed at least one holdover from the John Beilein era and Washington is a great fit. Many Michigan basketball fans wanted to keep Luke Yaklich but after he was passed over for the job, Washington made more sense.

His work with big guys like Moritz Wagner and Jon Teske has been huge and continuing that with Brandon Johns and Colin Castleton will be vital. He can also help shore up some things recruiting and also with the current roster.

The players will trust him and that will make the transition easier. It might also help Howard as he tries to reel back in Jalen Wilson, who asked out of his scholarship when Beilein went to Cleveland.

The bottom line is that Saddi is a good coach and the Wolverines were fortunate to keep him.
