Saddi is staying with Howard

The Athletic’s Brendan Quinn provided some good news for Michigan basketball fans as he reported long-time assistant coach Saddi Washington will be retained on staff under Juwan Howard.

Washington joined the staff in 2016 after being one year removed from his promotion to associate head coach at in-state Oakland University, where he has been since 2006. Prior to Oakland, Washington was a volunteer assistant coach at Romulus High School.

This move is somewhat surprising considering Saddi was the interim head coach when Beilein was out following his heart surgery and he took over the game last year when John was ejected. However, unlike Luke, Saddi didn’t have any reported interviews set up outside of the University.

Washington isn’t the only staff member to stay on board as it was reported last week that strength and conditioning coach Jon Sanderson will be joining Washington and Juwan at Michigan.

Coach Howard confirmed the retention via his Twitter.

"I’m pleased to announce that @CampSanderson – an integral part of the program the last 10 years – will be staying in Ann Arbor. His reputation precedes him — I’m definitely looking forward to witnessing that first workout. GO BLUE!!"
