Michigan Basketball: 5 takeaways on the hiring of Juwan Howard
Multiple sources are reporting that Juwan Howard has agreed to a five-year deal to be the head coach of Michigan basketball. Here are five thoughts on the hire.
After a lot of waiting and wondering, it is now official. Juwan Howard has accepted a five-year offer to become the head coach of Michigan basketball.
The news was first reported on Tuesday by Five Reasons Sports, a website that covers Miami sports. Howard has spent the last six season as a top assistant for the Miami Heat.
Yet, it took nearly 24 hours before the news of an agreement started spreading. Jeff Goodman of Stadium just reported not long ago, that Howard had agreed to the deal and many other outlets, including MLive, The Wolverine and CBS Sports all agreed.
It was also being reported that an announcement will come either at the end of this week or early into next week. That’s important because Howard has some work to do. He needs to build a staff and also get recruiting.
Michigan basketball lost top recruit, Jalen Wilson, last week after John Beilein announced he would be leaving. Wilson, Franz Wager and Jaevin Cumberland are all guys Howard should talk to right away.
While there are mixed feelings among many fans about this hire, there are reasons for optimism and some of them are outlined here in five thoughts about Howard being the Wolverines coach.
