As the coaching search nears an end, it’s crucial to know who is being interviewed and who isn’t. Here we cover the Michigan basketball coaching update.

Yes, Michigan basketball head coach John Beilein is gone and we are moving on from the Beilein era to a new and hopefully equally as successful one.

For Beilein at the next level, losing is going to be his worst enemy, at least that’s what basketball legend Dick Vitale believes.

“The biggest challenge he’s going to have, which I couldn’t handle, is losing. Because all my life, whether it be high school state championships, college, Rutgers, we recruit a class that goes to the Final Four the year Michigan was there in ’76, then I go to U-D, we go a Sweet 16. We have a lot of success for U-D, and all of a sudden I go to the pros, and you get pounded on a regular basis. I couldn’t handle it.

Losing is not something Beilein faced regularly no matter where he stopped. He began in High School, moved onto junior college and ran the table of Divisions at the college level. Everywhere he went he achieved a different level of success.

At Michigan, he became the winningest coach of all time passing Johnny Orr who held the title of head coach for the Wolverines from 1968-1980. John can proudly proclaim his head coaching record at Michigan stands at 278-150. While he didn’t bring Michigan nation a national title, he made it all the way there, twice.

There’s no question that Beilein will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time; however, the question that remains is who can continue his tradition at Michigan.

Warde Manuel and Turnkey Sports are on the hunt for the next head coach so let’s take a look at the candidates.
