Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year?

Could Shea Patterson win Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year? According to Saturday Tradition, he can and is one of five most likely to take home the title.

The other candidates are quarterbacks Adrian Martinez and Justin Fields from Nebraska and Ohio State respectively. Running back Jonathan Taylor from Wisconsin and wide receiver Rondale Moore from Purdue round out the top five.

Much to the chagrin of Buckey fans, Rondale Moore singlehandedly handed Ohio State their only loss on the season. Moore caught 12 passes for 170 yards and added two touchdowns. Rondale and the now Browns QB David Blough (25/43 Cmp/Att, 378 Yds, 3/0 TD/Int) tore apart the Ohio State defense finishing the game 49-20.

Should Moore produce like that again on the big stage, he would have a legitimate argument for Big Ten Player of the Year; however, Shea Patterson and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis are brewing an explosive offensive, one tailor-made for its senior leader.

Saturday Tradition provided all the reasoning in the world for Shea to take home the title:

"Maybe it’s the excitement of Josh Gattis running the offense or perhaps it’s Patterson’s drive to return to Ann Arbor with a chip on his shoulder that gets him on this list. He isn’t the sexiest pick to win the award at the end of the 2019 season, but if Gattis’ offense utilizes Patterson’s skills the right way, he has the potential to lead an explosive Michigan offense and contend in the B1G East. There are a ton of great offensive players returning in the B1G, but Patterson might be the most intriguing considering the changes the Wolverines have made in the offseason."

Words like exciting and intriguing are often used when describing the new scheme and while this season is important, recruiting for the future is just as significant.
