Team chemistry

Maybe the best thing about this trip to South Africa for Michigan is how it should help bring this team together going into what could be a pressure-packed 2019 season.

Obviously, Harbaugh is facing more pressure than anyone. While the Wolverines have won 10 games in three of the past four seasons, his 0-4 record against Ohio State is looming large. The fact that Michigan has lost consecutive games to end the last three seasons also isn’t helpful.

Shea Patterson returned to Michigan football to beat Ohio State and win championships and even though it might sound corny, trips like this are great for team building and developing the kind of chemistry championship teams often have.

Not only are players getting to know each other but the coaching staff also had a bunch of turnover with a new offensive coordinator in Josh Gattis, as well as other new additions like Shaun Nua and Anthony Campanile. Ben McDaniels also moved into a full-time role, while Greg Mattison, Al Washington and Pep Hamilton all moved on.

It will give all those individuals a chance to grow together, which could be important with so much on the line this coming fall.
