Cornell Wheeler

Position: ILB

This Michigan native is ranked 14th in the state, the 13th ILB, and 475 nationally, according to 247sports.

Yet again, Rivals smartly ranks the West Bloomfield star fifth in the state, eighth positionally, and 247th nationally.

Per The D Zone, Cornell registered 146 tackles and 11 tackles for loss this past season while helping lead the Lakers to the Regionals in the Playoffs where they lost to Belleville, led by Andre Seldon. Prior to that game, the Lakers dominated Plymouth 49-14 and then played a tough matchup against the Shamrocks of Detroit Catholic Central. That game went into overtime where West Bloomfield was able to seal the deal 20-17.

Recruiting Cornell was a little easier on Michigan considering his life long love of the program.

“When I was little, my whole room was Michigan everything,” Wheeler said. “It was Maize and Blue. My parents definitely made that so I always grew up watching the games. Big games at the Big House, going to the stadium. I grew up there. I was born there.”

Sadly, my room still looks that way.
