Round one

Shea Patterson

The obvious pick here is Shea Patterson. Despite his fantastic stats in the 2018 season, Shea decided to stick around for this fall. It makes sense considering this new offense is one he believes fits him perfectly.

Even though Bleacher Reports Matt Miller told the world he was leaving for this year’s draft, Shea made the right decision- as long as he has a successful season.

Shea’s competition for a first-round selection is terrifying. Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jake Fromm, and Jalen Hurts are just some of his challengers; however, the new speed in space offense at Michigan could give Shea the bump he needs to show NFL front offices why he deserves day one selection.

Donovan Peoples-Jones

Someone needs to have a breakout year at wide receiver and Donovan Peoples-Jones is the perfect candidate. When Donovan graduated from Cass Tech, he was listed as the No.1 receiver in the country and yet he hasn’t been able to truly show his skill set in the past with Michigan football running a conservative offense.

During his freshman campaign, Peoples-Jones caught 22 passes for 277 yards. He drastically increased those numbers this past season, catching 47 passes for 612 yards.

If DPJ wants to hear his name called early, he will have to have a Braylon Edwards type year bringing in over 1,000 yards receiving. To be exact, during Edwards senior year, prior to being selected third overall, he caught 97 passes for 1,330 yards.

DPJ would also have to forgo his senior year to be selected in 2020, but if he lives up to his potential and can replicate or improve upon the Braylon legacy, leaving early could be the right decision for him.
