Michigan football lost three starters on offense and six on defense leaving nine positions up in the air. Some of the spots are filled with the expected starters but there’s always a couple of guys who really impress the coaches and take over the starting role.

Have you heard Tua Tagoviloa? How about Trevor Lawerance? They are the guys who shined and robbed the starting role from the expected starters at their respective schools.

Tua took over for Jalen Hurts at Alabama during the national championship game his freshman year and never looked back. Hurts, on the other hand, is no longer with the tide and looking to be the third Sooner to win the Heisman.

Lawrence astounded the Clemson Tiger faithful with his play and became the first freshman since Johnny Football to beat the Crimson tide and won himself a national title. He took over for the very talented Kelly Bryant, who is still a tiger but now at Missouri.

This is not to hint that Cade McNamara could usurp Shea Patterson but there are plenty of examples where a freshman could take the lead role on this Michigan football team.

Right tackle is the perfect example as Jalen Mayfield is in tough competition with Andrew Stueber after Juwann Bushell-Beatty graduated and looks to a potential future in the NFL.
