Senior RB improved

The running back position definitely has some questions moving forward, mostly concerning with health and depth. But that doesn’t change the fact that senior running back Tru Wilson took a step forward this spring.

As the top guy on the depth chart due to injuries, Wilson handled the role well. He was productive last season, averaging more than five yards per attempt on 62 carries, but in the spring, he broke more tackles and ran with more power.

During the scrimmage Saturday, it was hard to gauge the backs because it wasn’t live and a huge part of gaining yards in the Big Ten is getting yards after contact, which the backs weren’t really able to do.

Wilson may not be an explosive athlete or a superstar, but he’s a solid back who can get what is blocked and who can pass protect. He’s not the ideal starter and would be better as a backup, however, it’s hard not to have a higher opinion of Wilson than before the spring began.
