Second-year guys made a leap

Last season when Rashan Gary and Chase Winovich went down with an injury, guys like Kwity Paye and Josh Uche stepped up and the two of them combined for just under 10 sacks.

Another young defensive lineman that played a lot last season was Hutchinson and in the spring scrimmage, he was a force up front. He seemed basically immovable in the run game, especially in the goalline stuff and he showed the kind of toughness you expected regularly from Winovich and Gary.

We will see if he can rush the passer like Winovich but he has lived up to the billing and so did Vincent Gray, a redshirt freshman corner who caught my eye. Brad Hawkins also had a nice interception and he is another player in the secondary pushing for playing time.

It was thought to be a question mark at one time but with Ambry Thomas, Gray, Gemon Green, and Brad Hawkins all making plays, along with Daxton Hill coming in this fall along with a healthy return of Lavert Hill the secondary is going to be loaded.
