Michigan Football: 5 positions to watch during Wolverines spring game
Quarterbacks are always a story
People may get sick of it, but quarterbacks are always going to be a big part of the storyline and that’s no different Saturday when we see Michigan’s signal callers run the system of Josh Gattis for the first time.
Again, I wouldn’t expect the Wolverines to reveal too much, however, they have to show something and it will be interesting to see how each quarterback has adapted.
By all accounts, Shea Patterson has excelled in the system and after being a spread quarterback at Ole Miss, running the no-huddle and being in an up-tempo offense probably feels like home.
Some want to drum up competition at quarterback but don’t buy it. Patterson is going to be the starter unless it becomes painfully obvious he shouldn’t. The battle to watch though is at backup quarterback because Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton appear to be neck-and-neck.
Both players have a bright future in the program but whoever wins the backup job could have a leg up on being the next starter. It will also be interesting to see if McCaffrey plays as well as he did prior to the injury he suffered against Penn State.
