Michigan Football: 5 keys to a successful 2019 for the Wolverines
The running back shuffle
Let’s get this out of the way first, no one is doubting Tru Wilson‘s ability to be the starter for Michigan.
With that said, it would be nice for Chris Evans suspension to be lifted. His academic issue has gone on long enough as we wait to hear the decision from Michigan’s review board.
Michigan football athletic staff have emphasized they will not be interfering with the process and have given almost no updates.
This is what Running backs coach Jay Harbaugh had to say last week about the situation.
"“No update, that’s not something I’m involved in,” Harbaugh said. “I’m really out of the loop on it and it’s being left in the appropriate hands. We’re just kind of waiting to see what they’re deciding to do.”"
With Evans suspension lingering, the team must move on with the next man up mentality. The problem is injuries are also plaguing the backfield.
The starting running back right now is a converted safety and his backup is a converted tight end, yikes.
On a position note, both Turner and Charbonnet should be ready for the fall when the Wolverines take the field against Middle Tenessee on August 31st. The key here for Michigan football will be to rely on the veteran offensive line and have similar production to last year when Karan Higdon had a 1,000+ yard season.
