Michigan football announced the details for its spring game Saturday and it turns out, it’s a practice with a controlled scrimmage, which is disappointing.

After months of not seeing the Michigan football team on the field, fans are looking forward to the Wolverines spring game Saturday for obvious reasons.

However, when Michigan football released the details of what we can expect Saturday evening at the Big House, it was hard not to be disappointed.

Instead of the Wolverines taking part in a full, traditional scrimmage, which offers a game-like atmosphere, the team announced that it will hold a normal practice with a scrimmage at the end.

Essentially, the “scrimmage” at the end of practice is going to be the spring game,  meaning fans will see a lot less of the Michigan football team than they probably hoped.

As far as trying to watch the spring game on television, well, you won’t have any luck with that either. However, you can listen to it on the radio or stream it online.

Here’s the release from the University of Michigan:

"The 2019 University of Michigan football team will hold its annual Spring Game presented by PNC Bank on Saturday (April 13) at Michigan Stadium. The Wolverines will conduct individual and team drills with a controlled scrimmage during a portion of practice. The spring football practice is free and open to the public, with the Wolverines taking the field at 5 p.m. to begin warmups and drills. The gates to Michigan Stadium will open at 4 p.m.The typical prohibited items list will be strictly enforced, with no bags allowed in the stadium for the spring football game. All attendees and items are subject to search. In addition, there will be a bag check starting at 4 p.m. on the south concourse of Crisler Center. This practice is one of the 15 allowed under NCAA rules to each program across the country. It is subject to change or cancellation due to inclement weather conditions before or during the session.Locally, coverage of the practice will air on WWJ Radio (950 AM in Detroit) starting at 4:45 p.m. The radio broadcast will also be streamed on MGoBlue.com."

While it is disappointing that Michigan won’t be taking part in a full scrimmage, it’s not shocking. Head coach Jim Harbaugh likes keeping things under wraps and with a new offense and new offensive coordinator, he won’t want to reveal too much.

It will give fans a chance to watch the team practice again like last Saturday, but the only difference between the open practice and the spring game seems to be an 11-on-11 period at the end.

Truthfully, that’s a helluva lot better than nothing but for Michigan football fans, it’s still disappointing.
