Michigan Basketball: 3 things we learned from win over Florida
Michigan is a basketball power again
It is not overstating it to say that John Beilein has transformed Michigan basketball during his time as head coach and with the win Saturday, he has now guided the Wolverines to three-straight Sweet 16 appearances as well as five in seven years.
Since the start of the 2013 NCAA tournament, Michigan has won 18 NCAA tournament games and for a program that isn’t Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky or Kansas that is pretty remarkable. Especially when you consider Michigan hadn’t even qualified for the tournament for over a decade before Beilein arrived.
The success he has had over the past few years, both with wins and in the development of players has been remarkable. I don’t think anyone develops college basketball players better than Beilein and Teske is a perfect example of that.
Michigan could lose out in the next round or it could make another run to the Final Four. But no matter what happens, there is no debating that Michigan is among the 10 best programs in college hoops and considering where things stood about 10 years ago, that’s insane.
And it’s all because of the genius of John Beilein.
