The Michigan football team will be back on the field this Sunday with the start of spring practices and here are five predictions for spring ball.

While there will be a lot of focus on basketball this weekend among Wolverines fans, Michigan football opens spring practices Sunday leading up to the spring game next month.

Spring ball is always exciting especially for hardcore fans but this time around, there are even more storylines for Michigan football fans to follow.

At the top of the list is the arrival of new offensive coordinator, Josh Gattis who was hired by Jim Harbaugh to run the offense and call the plays. We will get our first glimpse of what he’s up to this spring and that will be one of the things everyone is watching.

Then, you will have different position battles that fans will be monitoring. Offensively, there are a few spots to monitor and one, of course, will be running back where Christian Turner, Zach Charbonnet and Tru Wilson will all be battling it out this spring. Charbonnet, who is one of Michigan football’s top recruits, has enrolled early to take part in spring practices.

Some of the other key position battles will be on the defensive side of the ball, such as corner, safety, linebacker, defensive end and defensive tackle. Also, players looking to make a jump will also be a key topic of conversation, especially redshirt freshman and others who are looking to make a move up the depth chart.

Soon, we will have a much better idea of how all that is going to shake out but looking ahead here is a crack at five predictions with spring football in mind.
