Ronnie Bell needs to lock down the slot position

When people talk about all the weapons that Michigan football has offensively, for some reason, Ronnie Bell‘s name gets left out a lot.

But after the year he had as a freshman it shouldn’t because at times he flashed some real promise. I don’t want to overstate his impact, Bell did catch just eight passes for 145 yards, however, he caught two touchdown passes and had three games with at least two receptions.

With new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis coming in to call plays, the Wolverines appear to want a more wide-open system, which should mean good things for whoever is playing in the slot. Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins and Tarik Black are all great and they can see snaps inside, yet Michigan still needs a fast, shifty receiver and Bell could be the guy.

Many have focused on Giles Jackson, the 5-foot-8 back/receiver who seems dynamic as hell from all of his highlights videos, but if Bell can put together a really good spring and adapt to Gattis’ system, he could go a long way towards ensuring himself plenty of targets next fall.
