Spring practice is just around the corner for Michigan football and when workouts begin next weekend, here are three position battles to watch.

Even though the regular season is months away, the Michigan football team will begin its first on-field preparation for the 2019 season in less than two weeks.

Spring football practices are scheduled to start March 17 for the Wolverines, even though other teams across the Big Ten have already gotten started, such as Nebraska, which opened spring practice Monday.

For Michigan football, the wait will be a little longer and starting the 17th will begin about a month of practices before the Wolverines will play their spring game Aprill 13. Last season, the spring game was canceled due to weather issues.

This time around, there should be plenty of hype surrounding the spring especially with the addition of new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. Everyone is going to want to catch a glimpse of his system, even if he doesn’t reveal much during the spring game.

In addition to the new scheme, Michigan football has some new players to evaluate and on top of that, there are some key position battles to watch.

Of course, there is always going to be competition but after losing some key guys like Devin Bush, Rashan Gary, Chase Winovich and David Long, the Wolverines have some key pieces to replace. Some of the players that will fill those spots have something to prove this spring as incoming freshman and returning players battle it out for spots on the two-deep.

While head coach Jim Harbaugh likes to stress competition at every position, here are three position battles that are most intriguing heading into spring football.
