The 2019 Michigan football team will begin team building in earnest during Spring practice. According to head coach Jim Harbaugh’s podcast Monday, the annual Spring game will be April 13 at 5:00 p.m.

It will be a day or evening to check out Michigan football’s new offensive and defensive toys. As well as returning starters from last season. The game is more about team building and quenching some fans curiosity. Last year’s spring game was canceled due to weather.

There is no telling exactly what offensive coordinator Josh Gattis will allow his unit to show. It could be safe to say they may show more than in years past. The only reason for this is he is perhaps the most hyped assistant coach Michigan football has had in a while.

The other reason for Gattis to open it up a little in an exhibition game is Josh has both preached and posted (on social media) what his offense will be. Speed in space, getting playmakers the ball and letting them do their thing.

With all the hype, it would be a shame if there was no sign of all the talk. Other factors to keep an eye on is linebacker Devin Bush’s replacement. Who steps up on the defensive line? Can the defense pick up the pieces from a dismal end to last season and regroup and become a pillar of strength on the team?

The Wolverines special teams should be in good shape. That was a solid unit all the way around. So there is not much to keep an eye on with that phase of the game. The hope is that this unit picks up where the left off last season.

While at the end of the day, spring games are indeed just an exhibition, this has a different feel to it for Michigan football. There is a newness attached with the 2019 game. In what was thought to be a quiet offseason it has been anything but in Ann Arbor.
