Wide receiver might be the most talented position on the Michigan football team and here are three predictions for the group in 2019.

Much of the focus this offseason has been on the offense of Michigan football and what needs to be done to improve that side of the ball so the Wolverines can beat Ohio State and other elites.

With the hiring of new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the offense and what it could be if it was opened up. Last season, Michigan football was dedicated to its running game and while that wasn’t a bad thing — it worked for most of the season — the Wolverines can’t be so predictable and so old-school.

The conservative approach should be a thing of the past. Michigan has a good defense and it has for years. Yes, there have been some struggles against highly-ranked opponents but good teams are going to score points. That’s just the way it works.

The key is outscoring those teams and that’s something Michigan must learn to do. The Wolverines can’t win every game 24-10 or 17-13 or whatever. You do need a good defense to win championships but defenses can’t do it alone, especially not in the modern world of college football.

A good defense would easily give up 40-50 points. Just ask Alabama. The Crimson Tide played terrible defense in the College Football Playoff but no one is saying Nick Saban can’t coach.

The other team just had really good players. The takeaway from the national title game is that both teams were aggressive and thankfully, the Wolverines got one of the co-offensive coordinators for Alabama that night running the show for their offense.

We all know that’s an exciting prospect and as for what it means for the wide receivers the position Gattis coaches, well, here are three position-specific predictions for 2019.
