Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from key win over Maryland
The offense has issues again
When Michigan basketball opened the game with 21 points in the first 10 minutes as well as early treys from Simpson and Iggy, it seemed like it was going to be a breakout night for the offense, which has been maligned in recent weeks.
And while Michigan did score 65 points and beat a top-25 team at home, the offense still has some things to figure out. In the first half, the Wolverines scored only 27 points and for the game, they shot just 42 percent from the field.
At the 3-point line, Michigan finished 7-of-26 and if it wasn’t for a run late, the sputtering offense could have cost the Wolverines a 16-point lead. Teske who finished 4-of-13 and was 1-of-9 at one point scored seven huge points late and even Poole who only scored eight had a big bucket down the stretch.
Everyone contributed and it’s easy to forget that Maryland is a really good defensive team. But at the same time, this team needs to shoot the ball better from deep, because if not, it’s going to have to win ugly.
