Livers shines again off the bench

One of the main takeaways I had from Tuesday night was that Isaiah Livers is good — damn good. In fact, he’s good enough to start for this team, although it would be incredibly hard to bench anyone, even Matthews who has struggled on the offensive end recently.

But in 23 minutes of work against arch-rival Ohio State, Livers was arguably the Wolverine second-best player behind Simpson. He knocked down a crucial 3-pointer to give UM the lead in the first half and then hit another to help extend it in the second.

In all, Livers finished with 12 points and was 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. All season long, he has been a consistent shooter from beyond the arc. At the same time, he’s been very effective on the defensive end and on the boards.

Once Matthews and maybe even Iggy leave after this season, watch out for Livers, because that dude is a star in waiting and when the season is done, he might be the Big Ten’s Sixth Man of the Year, following in Duncan Robinson‘s footsteps.
