Michigan Football: Wolverines hosting several key targets this weekend

Michigan football is hosting a bunch of visits from 2020 and 2021 recruits and here is the latest on what’s happening on a big recruiting weekend.

It’s clear at this point that the Michigan football team is pretty much done with the 2019 recruiting class and with a bunch of targets visiting this weekend, the attention has shifted to 2020 and beyond.

In all, according to Maize and Brew, 16 prospects are going to be visiting Michigan football this weekend, including 12 recruits from 2020 and four others from 2021. The group of 2020 prospects is especially important as seven of them are four-stars or higher including a slew of wide receivers.

The biggest name is AJ Henning, who is a top-10 wide receiver in 2020 and also the No. 51 player overall. It seems the hiring of Josh Gattis has had a positive impact on his recruitment and he recently put the Wolverines among his top 10 teams. This could be a good chance to make a great impression.

While Henning will take more work to land, another four-star receiver in Ann Arbor this weekend could be much closer to committing and that’s Rashawn Williams. Current Michigan commit, Andre Seldon, a four-star corner from 2020, said Williams could commit to the Wolverines soon.

The Wolverines already hold a majority of Williams’ crystal ball predictions and a good visit could help lock things down. On top of that, Michigan football made another offer as the Wolverines extended one to three-star defensive tackle Byrce Austin.

Some of the other big names you need to know are Braiden McGregor, a four-star defensive end from Port Huron, Michigan, who also has offers from Notre Dame, Clemson and Alabama, among others. Michigan football and the Irish seem to be the early favorites.

This will be McGregor’s first chance to meet new defensive line coach Shaun Nua. He was close to Greg Mattison, who left for Ohio State, so that will be a key thing to watch this weekend.

Devell Washington, a three-star wide receiver in 2020, was looking like a Michigan State lean, however, he has said more positive things about Michigan with the hire of Gattis and with him getting on campus today, that could lead to some traction for the Wolverines.

Four-star offensive lineman Michael Carmody is another name to watch this weekend, as Ed Warriner tries to land another talented offensive lineman. He is also part of the 2020 class and looks to be leaning Penn State.

While Michigan football has done plenty of work on 2020 already, this is really a big starting off point as the focus shifts to 2020 and 2021. UM is off to a strong start in the 2020 cycle, ranking in the top 10 already, but the Wolverines will be looking to add more soon.
