Simpson and Teske could make Michigan basketball unbeatable

When you look at the Michigan basketball team, the three guys you focus on offensively are Matthews, Iggy and Jordan Poole. Isaiah Livers is another good threat. But you don’t think of Simpson and Teske as offensive threats but after last night, that might need to change.

For his part, Teske has steadily improved as an offensive player. When he started for Moritz Wagner last season, he averaged in double figures and after scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 boards against the Wildcats, he has back-to-back double-doubles.

The way he was popping out to the 3-point line after screens, then in one motion catching and shooting was insane. I never dreamed Teske could be that smooth. Make no mistake, Michigan has missed that pick-and-pop element in its offense and now it has that in Teske,  it’s just another thing for opponents to worry about.

In the case of Simpson, his 3-point shooting has gotten better and better. He was 0-for-5 against Northwestern the first time they met this season and in Michigan’s last four games against the Wildcats, the Wolverines averaged just 21 percent from deep. The plan was to make Simpson shoot the ball and unlike the first meeting, he did it well and if he can keep doing that, this Michigan basketball team might be impossible to beat.
