Michigan Basketball: 3 predictions for the Wolverines against Penn State
Michigan’s defense will be on point
In the Wolverines last four games against South Carolina, Western Michigan, Air Force and Binghamton, they haven’t been as sharp on either end of the floor. But with a week off between each game and lackluster opponents, Michigan can be forgiven for that.
We aren’t always at our best after all and great teams find ways to win even when they aren’t. Michigan met that standard and won two of the four games with ease. However, if Michigan sleepwalks against Penn State, it could be much more costly.
That’s why I expect a strong effort defensively. With Big Ten play starting again, I think the focus and the energy will be back and right from the opening tip, not 5-10 minutes into the game. Michigan knows how Penn State is good enough to win in Ann Arbor, so I expect a much more focused team.
On top of that, Penn State isn’t a great offensive team. Lamar Stevens is a solid presence inside who averages 18 points and eight rebounds. He teams well with Rasir Bolton, who averages 2.5 3-point makes per game and 14 points overall. Josh Reaves and Myles Dread, two guards, are the others to watch. But with Michigan’s stellar defense inside and out, expect the Lions to struggle to score 60 points.
