Michigan Football: 4 questions to answer about Shea Patterson’s return

Shea Patterson announced that he will return to Michigan football for his senior season Friday and here is an in-depth breakdown of what it means.

There have been a lot of questions hanging around Michigan football lately and one of the biggest was whether or not quarterback Shea Patterson was turning pro or returning for his senior season.

Well, Friday afternoon, we got the answer we have been waiting for and with one week to go before the Peach Bowl, Patterson declared his intention to return for another season.

While most of the Michigan football fanbase rejoiced, not all of the Wolverines followers were happy about the decision. You can read the quarterback’s words for yourself here:

As you can probably guess, some are down on Patterson for how he performed against Ohio State and others just want Dylan McCaffrey to get his shot at the starting job after showing glimpses of promise last season in limited action.

But regardless of some of the opinions out there, here are some facts: Patterson was 10-2 as a starter and beat three consecutive ranked teams. He completed 64.8 percent of his throws, passed for more than 2,300 yards and tossed 21 touchdowns compared to five interceptions.

The showing against Ohio State wasn’t up to par but he admitted that Friday and he said that was one of the reasons he wanted to come back. He desperately wants to beat the Buckeyes. Again some have made his return into a negative, but either way, Michigan football is getting arguably the best quarterback of the Jim Harbaugh era back for another season and as a way of breaking down the move, here are four questions arising from Patterson’s decision.
