Michigan football finished as No. 7 in the College Football rankings and will play 10th-ranked Florida in the Peach Bowl. Here’s why you should care.

A couple of weeks ago, Michigan football had bigger aspirations than just a New Year’s Six bowl game. However, after laying an egg at Ohio State, the 10-2 Wolverines, who finished seventh in the final playoff rankings had to settle for a Peach Bowl berth against Florida.

On its face, it seems a little disappointing. A few weeks ago, Michigan football seemed like a good bet for the playoff or maybe even the Rose Bowl and not getting into either is less than ideal.

Another reason why it’s a little hard to get excited about this game is that it will be the third time Florida and Michigan have met in the last four seasons. The two teams met in the 2015 Citrus Bowl and also played in the season-opening game last season.

Michigan won both games going away, however, that doesn’t mean this won’t be competitive. This Florida team is coached by Dan Mullens and the 10th-ranked Gators should pose plenty of problems, especially with their defense.

At the very least, it’s a chance for a Big Ten team ranked in the top 10 to take down an SEC team ranked in the top 10 and that’s always worth something. More than that, Michigan needs to finish the season on a strong note.

Despite what some might say, beating Florida would do just that. Yet, in case you are disappointed, here are three reasons why you should care about this game.
