Michigan Football: 3 reasons to fear an upset against Ohio State
Michigan football appears to be the better team heading into the Ohio State game, but here are three reasons why you should still fear an upset.
Michigan football and Ohio State have played some legendary games over the years and there have been plenty of triumphs on both sides.
Lately, things have gone the way of Ohio State. Well, longer than that, as the Buckeyes have really controlled this rivalry since Jim Tressel’s first season in 2002. Michigan football has won The Game only twice: 2002 and 2011.
Both of those games were in Ann Arbor. In recent years, even under Jim Harbaugh, Michigan hasn’t been able to turn the tide. Michigan is 0-3 year against Ohio State and Harbaugh, who has to find a way to Ohio State before he will finally be accepted by everyone, needs to turn it around.
What’s more is that the best team doesn’t always win in this rivalry. Michigan ruined seasons for better Ohio State teams in 1993, 1995 and 1996. Ohio State did something similar to Michigan in 2001, costing the Wolverines major bowl berths and a Big Ten championship. Ohio State also cost Michigan a conference championship in 1998, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2016.
The last time the Wolverines won in Columbus was back in 2000 when Drew Henson and Anthony Thomas led Michigan football to the win and a share of the Big Ten championship. Only John Navarre and Denard Robinson have beaten as starting quarterbacks Ohio State since.
However, even with all that history, Michigan looks like the better team and the time is now in this rivalry. Ohio State seams as weak as it has ever been under Urban Meyer, but still, it’d be insane not to fear an upset loss and here are three reasons why.
