A successful run game is paramount for Michigan

If there is one thing to keep an eye on Saturday when it comes to Michigan football, it’s whether or not the Wolverines can run the ball.

In its other big wins in the Big Ten against Wisconsin, Michigan State and Penn State, the Wolverines ran for over 200 yards in each game. That’s a huge improvement from a year ago when Michigan was held under 100 yards in three of its five losses. Never did it come close to 200 yards rushing.

Behind Karan Higdon and a really good offensive line, Michigan is fourth in the Big Ten in rushing yards at 219 per game. Ohio State also isn’t great against the run. The Buckeyes are sixth in the Big Ten and last week, allowed 340 yards to Maryland, including 298 yards to freshman running back Anthony McFarland.

Ohio State was lucky to escape Maryland win a with last week. However, if the Buckeyes allow Michigan anywhere close to 300 yards rushing, heck even if Ohio State allows the Wolverines to reach 200 yards, UM will win the game going away. And that’s a guarantee. Here’s looking at you, Karan.
