Michigan basketball beat a pesky George Washington team Saturday and here are three takeaways as UM prepares for the Hall-of-Fame Tip-off title game.

While a lot of Wolverines fans are looking forward to Michigan and Indiana on the football field, the Michigan basketball team took on George Washington Saturday and rolled to an 84-61 victory.

Michigan basketball allowed 60 points or more for the first time this season and led by just nine points at the half, however, there were a lot of things to be encouraged by. The best thing is simply that Michigan won the game, which gives them a chance to play for the Tip-off Tournament championship Sunday against either South Carolina or Providence.

The best thing about the win for the Wolverines was their ability to shoot the basketball, especially from deep. That has not been a strong suit early in the season but against the Colonials, Michigan knocked down 15 3-pointers. Jordan Poole hit five, Zavier Simpson hit four, Isaiah Livers hit three and Charles Matthews got two.

Matthews also threw down a number of impressive dunks in a 25-point performance. He was the leading scorer but was followed closely by Poole, who had 22 points. Simpson also added 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. It was another really good performance for the junior point guard.

The Wolverines will have to turn around and get ready for another game Sunday at 1:30 EST. Yet, the win over George Washington had to add to their confidence and here are three important takeaways from the win.
