The Michigan football team didn’t cover the spread against Rutgers, but the Wolverines still won going away. Here are three things we learned.

When you play on the road in college football, anything can happen. We have seen that time and time again over the years and even the Michigan football team has proven it’s not immune.

Certainly, the final score against Rutgers looked impressive for Michigan football, as the Wolverines beat the Scarlet Knights by a final score of 42-7. However, the game was only 21-7 at halftime and it was 7-7 nearly halfway through the second quarter.

Of course, Rutgers was going to be amped up for this game. How many times do you get to play the fourth-ranked team in the country at home? It was a Super Bowl of sorts for the Scarlet Knights and in the opening half, they played like it.

Michigan football, which was playing for its playoff lives, seemed somewhat disinterested to start. The Wolverines finally mustered a score on their second drive, only to allow an 80-yard touchdown run which tied the game up.

After that, the defense toughened up and Shea Patterson took over, but for a while, it was slightly concerning to see Michigan struggle. The Wolverines gave up more rushing yards than we have seen all season and they also struggled to run the ball — against Rutgers.

Obviously, there is no need to overreact, Michigan football won the game by 35 points. Yet, there were a couple of troubling signs and here’s a look at a few things we learned from the 42-7 victory.
