Michigan football impressed enough in the win

Certainly, against one of the worst teams in the country, Michigan wasn’t really going to be able to impress the committee, but the Wolverines could look less than impressive in a win and that was the one thing outside of losing, they didn’t want to happen.

For a while in the first half, it looked as though it might turn into that, especially when Michigan faced a fourth-and-one with the score tied 7-7. As it turned out, UM got the first down and a touchdown followed soon after.

The defense was also spectacular after giving up a couple of big plays early. Rutgers got 11 first downs and was 4-of-12 on third downs. The Wolverines also should have scored on their opening drive but failed to get one yard on two attempts, which resulted in a turnover on downs.

With the halftime score just 21-7, Michigan football needed an impressive second half to keep the game from hurting them in the eyes of the committee and the Wolverines outscored Rutgers 21-0. They also played their backups in the fourth and did enough to keep the revenge tour on track.
