Michigan Wolverines Football: 30 greatest players of all-time
By Brad Weiss
A native of Saginaw, Michigan, LaMarr Woodley decided it would be best to stay in-state to play his college football. Michigan fans are certainly lucky that he did, as Woodley would go on to be one of the better linebackers in the history of the Big Ten Conference, arguably the best linebacker in program history.
After leading his high school team to a state title, Woodley was regarded as a five-star recruit. Playing as both a defensive end and linebacker during his time at Michigan, Woodley put together an incredible career. He was named both a First-Team All-American and All-Big Ten selection during the 2006 college football season.
During that magical 2006 campaign, Woodley was named the defensive captain of the team and responded by registering 12 sacks on the year. He was awarded not only the Lombardi Award, given to the best lineman in the country, but also the Ted Hendricks Award, which is awarded to the best defensive lineman in college football.
The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive Lineman of the Year, Woodley finished his college career in style. Woodley was a second-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007. He would go on to win a Super Bowl with the Steelers, as he was a key player on their defense. However, nothing will match the kind of production he had during his career in Ann Arbor.
