Michigan Football: 5 Wolverines who have stepped up this season
Chase Winovich has continued to produce despite more attention
It might surprise some to see Chase Winovich‘s name on this list, but when you think about the way he has played this season for Michigan football, it shouldn’t.
Winovich has been flat-out dominant for the Wolverines. At the mid-way point in the season, he was the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year and with 37 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and three sacks, he deserves it. He also earned All-American honors at the halfway point.
For the most part, Winovich has been just as effective as he was last season. His ability to set the edge and penetrate against the run is incredible. And as a pass rusher, he is just ferocious.
What has been most impressive though, is how his game hasn’t slipped in the absence of Gary, who generally gets a lot of attention from opposing offenses.
Now that attention is being paid to Winovich and it still doesn’t matter, he is still proving each and every week, he can dominate, regardless of the opponent. (Note: Winovich calling Michigan State little brother again had nothing to do with his placement on this list).
