Michigan football will play its final non-conference game Saturday vs SMU. Here are three predictions for the Wolverines against the Mustangs.

Generally, when Michigan football fans look ahead to the schedule, they are focused on games against teams like Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and the like. That means teams like SMU don’t really move the meter.

This non-conference game, the final one for the Wolverines, is nowhere near as important as Notre Dame. It’s not a chance for Michigan football to make a statement or open any eyes, even to win a big game.

No, it’s a game the Wolverines are expected to win and not just by a touchdown or two. Anything short of an absolute domination and Michigan football fans will be in a frenzy. That’s just the reality for Jim Harbaugh and company right now.

Michigan has the talent of a national title contender and with an elite head coach, there’s no reason why this can’t be a top-10 or even a top-5 team. However, beating SMU isn’t going to get them there. Yet, it’s still a game you want to keep an eye on for a number of reasons.

I want to see Michigan dominate and not because SMU is weaker but because the Wolverines are just that good. They dominated weaker opponents in 2016, just like they did last week and a repeat of that would be nice.

There is one week left to get this team firing on all cylinders and Saturday is the perfect opportunity to do just that. And with all that in mind, here are three predictions for what will take place Saturday in the Big House.
